Abstract

The Merah Putih Village Cooperative is an initiave by the Indonesian government, proposed by President rabowo Subianto, aimed at improving the welfare of rural communities and addressing economic issues in villages. As reported by several media outlets, the Merah Putih Vilage Cooperative is a program launched by the Indonesian government to strengthen the rural economy and provide solutions to existing economic challanges. On the other hand, BUM Desa (Village-Owned Enterprises), as mandated by Government Regulation No. 11 of 2021 concerning BUM Desa, functions to organize and develop the economic potential within villages, as well as provide various services that support the welfare of rural communities. Given the dominance of BUM Desa, which has been established for a longer time, questions arise about how the role of cooperative can synergize without disrupting the operations of BUM Desa, which has developed as a key economic institution in villages. If not clearly regulated, there is a concern that overlapping roles between these institutions may occur. The Ministry of Villages and Development Disadvantaged Regions (PDT) must continue to prioritize BUM Desa as the driver of the rural economy and support food security activities in villages. The establishment of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative must synergize with BUM Desa. The cooperative can function as a business unit of BUM Desa. It is necessary to develop a scheme for the use of village funds for the Merah Putih Village Cooperative.
