Strengthening Disaster Resilience
Strategy to Reduce the Underdevelopment Index in Sabu Raijua Regency
Keywords:
disadvantage region, disaster resilience, village fundsAbstract
Indonesia has a high risk of disasters, especially in underdeveloped areas such as Sabu Raijua Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). This area is prone to storms, floods, droughts, and earthquakes. The limited number of Disaster-Resilient Villages (Destana) in this area indicates low mitigation capacity, which is worsened by limited infrastructure and access. As an effort to strengthen disaster resilience and support sustainable development, therefore, the policy recommendations are giving more attention to Disaster-Resilient Villages (Destana), optimizing the Village Funds for disaster management programs, and restoring the mangrove ecotourism areas as natural protection and sources of community livelihoods. By those recommendations, it is expected that Sabu Raijua will be well-prepared to face disasters and improve local welfare.
